New Brunswick Grows! Print E-mail

Over the last 13 quarters, we have witnessed momentous change to everything from global markets to national and local leadership to weather. Throughout this dynamic period however, it seems New Brunswickers could count on one growth measure remaining positive - our province's population.

Statistics Canada heralded the good news earlier this week with their latest population growth estimate showing that in the first quarter of 2010, 615 people chose to be in this place. That means our province's population has grown by almost 6,400 people since January of 2007 and, though one quarter behind schedule, we have surpassed our government's first target of increasing our population by 6,000 by the end of 2009.

What this news also means is that we have managed to stem the tide of population decline which saw us lose well over 4,000 people in the 13 quarters leading up to our government's creation of the Population Growth Secretariat.
