In June of 1996 Rebecca Middleton and Jasmine Meens went on a trip of a lifetime. The two teens from Belleville, Ontario traveled to Bermuda, a small island in the Atlantic off the coast of South Carolina.

Bermuda is a charmingly beautiful place. Still a British colony, it mixes traditional English custom and carefree island life style. The girls had big dreams of sun and fun but instead their worst nightmare was about to begin.

A week into the trip, Rebecca and Jasmine went out to celebrate Rebecca's 17th birthday. They met up with a couple of friends, went to a bar, and then headed back to their friend's house. It was getting late so Jasmine called a taxi several times. The taxi company told the girls to wait outside by the side of the road.
